Poet & Children's Writer
Visits & Talks
In the past I used to do many visits to schools, libraries, festivals and bookshops. These visits involved giving performances of my own work to children within the primary school age range. Mostly these were booked through agencies and paid in accordance with Society of Authors guidelines for author visits. There was a demand for this kind of work and it proved a good way to engage with my potential audience.
Now that I am over 65 I do very little of this kind of work. The time and energy required for the planning, travelling, days in school and office admin have proven too much for me to maintain. I am keen to go on writing and now find I need the time I have for the writing itself. So I am no longer available as a touring poet/writer to schools and libraries across the UK or further afield, as before.
I may, however, come out for single sessions in the case of conferences or groups of people with a special interest in children's literature &/or poetry. In such instances I'll give either a prepared talk or a mixture of talk and performance.
"Tony Mitton's poetry was inspiring, entertaining and educational. I would certainly invite him back and what a nice man! Thanks."
Oliver Goldsmith Primary School
"Tony was absolutely superb - entertaining and inspirational. It is rare to have a visitor who can capture YR to Y6 - Brilliant!"
Fenstanton & Hilton School
"Thank you, a great way to start our Book Week."
Waldringfield Primary School
The other exception may be schools or groups within a one hour (approx) driving distance of Cambridge, my home town. Depending on my circumstances at the time I may be prepared to make limited visits. On such occasions I would be prepared to deliver one or two short performances (for example, 30-40 minutes to KS1, 45-60 minutes to KS2, or, say, somewhere between 30-50 minutes in the case of a single session to a mixed group). If you wish to contact me about the above possibilities simply email me on my business email : firstname.lastname@example.org
